DIY: Cassette Tape Purse

This is a DIY I've been meaning to post about for awhile, and I'm so glad I've finally gotten around to it! These purses are a great way to recycle your old cassette tapes, and are really cute aswell! Come on, have a go- I promise it's not super hard!

Supplies:
+ Cassette tapes
+ Small screwdriver
+ Hot glue gun
+ Cardboard
+ Zip (a longer one can be cut to size if necessary!)
+ Scissors

I got a whole lot of cassette tapes in an Op Shop for DIY purposes- off the top of my head, I think I got 13 for $2.60? So that's 20c per tape. Could it get any better??

The one I used is called "The James Last Sound: The Tony James Orchestra". Look at all that majesty (and 70's hair!)

So firstly, I used my screwdriver to unscrew the four corners of the tape. (This should apply to most tapes)

When you open the cassette up, you'll find all these fun bits and pieces. Take them out- they're not needed now, but I kept all of them inside the cassette cover- future DIY pieces, me thinks! You'll be left with the cassette shell, which is what we want.

Now, cut two pieces of cardboard approximately 9.5 x 6cm to place inside each half of the cassette shell. This is to ensure your treasures don't fall out of the holes.

Now, this is where it gets a bit tricky, but never fear! Unzip your zip, and using your hot glue gun tack the edge of the zipper to the edge of the cassette shell, a few centimetres at a time.

Finally, line up the other side of the zip with the other half of the cassette shell and glue it down accordingly. Once you've finished that, you're all done!

  2. You could sell this in Camden market to hipsters. £30 each i reckon they would pay you for one!
